EVENT: City of Pinole partners with Symbium to launch first-of-its-kind plan-scanning tech to accelerate permitting
Pinole, CA, April 16, 2026 — The City of Pinole and Symbium, the City’s provider of automated building code compliance and instant permitting solutions, today announced a major expansion of their digital permitting partnership with the launch of a first-of-its-kind plan-scanning feature that delivers near instant feedback on building plans before submission.
The new capability enables applicants to upload project plans and receive immediate prescreening results to ensure complete, compliant submissions. By catching errors early, the enhanced Symbium experience significantly reduces delays, revisions, and permitting timelines.
In parallel with this launch, the City of Pinole is expanding its suite of instant permit types to include a wider range of clean energy and electrification projects, such as heat pumps, EV chargers, HVACs, reroofs, and solar.
To celebrate these innovations, the City of Pinole and Symbium will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony and live demonstration on April 23rd at Pinole City Hall. Members of the media, local contractors, and the public are invited to attend and witness how these tools are accelerating project approvals and deployments, particularly timely considering the increase in electrification and energy-saving project volumes.

Traditionally, plan review can take weeks of back-and-forth communication. Symbium’s new feature scans digital plans upon upload, identifying potential compliance issues or missing information in seconds. This allows applicants to make corrections in real-time, ensuring a compliant submission every time while enhancing workflow efficiency for City staff, and reducing costs to homeowners.
