Symbium and HSEA Unite Around Shared Vision for Accelerated Solar Adoption in Hawaii
Partnership strengthens commitment to community-centered clean energy solutions across the Hawaiian Islands
Honolulu, HI— Symbium, the leading instant permitting provider in the clean energy space, today announced its membership in the Hawaii Solar Energy Association (HSEA) as a corporate member. This partnership underscores Symbium’s commitment to advancing Hawaii’s clean energy transition through community-focused initiatives and collaborative policy development.
As Hawaii continues to lead the nation in renewable energy adoption -Hawaii achieved a landmark 36% renewable portfolio standard in 2024 with solar providing 22% of the State’s electricity generation (source: T&D, EIA) - Symbium’s membership in HSEA represents a shared vision for sustainable energy solutions that prioritize local community needs and environmental stewardship. The partnership will enable Symbium to work alongside other industry leaders to advocate for policies that support Hawaii’s clean energy goals while ensuring equitable access to renewable energy technologies.
“We’re excited to join HSEA and contribute to Hawaii’s remarkable clean energy journey,” said Leila Banijamali, CEO of Symbium. “Our approach has always been community-first — we believe in supporting solution-agnostic policies that are truly responsive to the unique needs of Hawaii’s diverse communities. By working together with HSEA and other stakeholders, we can ensure that the deployment of solar serves everyone, from rural communities to urban centers, and creates lasting benefits for all residents of the Hawaiian Islands.”
HSEA, founded in 1977, serves as Hawaii’s premier trade association for the solar and renewable energy industry, representing businesses, organizations, and individuals committed to advancing clean energy throughout the state.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Symbium to the Hawaii Solar Energy Association,” said Rocky Mould, Executive Director of HSEA. “Their membership reflects a shared commitment to accelerating solar adoption in a way that’s both technologically innovative and rooted in community values. Symbium’s leadership in instant permitting is especially timely as Hawaii advances efforts to modernize and streamline solar permitting across the state. Their expertise will strengthen our collective push for permitting reform that reduces delays, lowers costs, and empowers more residents to participate in Hawaii’s clean energy future — while staying true to our goals of affordability, equity, and resilience.”
Symbium’s membership in HSEA comes at a critical time as Hawaii works toward its goal of achieving 100% renewable energy by 2035, according to a recent executive order by Governor Josh Green (a decade earlier than its original 2045 goal). The company’s expertise in community-first approaches to accelerated permitting will contribute valuable insights to HSEA’s advocacy efforts and policy development initiatives.
